David R. Barrett (Buffalo), of Freed Maxick Sachs & Murphy PC, was elected to the board of trustees at St. Joseph's College Institute.

Robert K. Berenson (Westchester), of Berenson & Company LLP, was honored at the ORT Accountants & Bankers chapter's annual dinner.

Michael Jay Buxbaum (Buffalo), of S. Buxbaum & Co. PC, won a gold medal in judo in the Empire State Games.

J. Michael Cook, of Deloitte & Touche LLP, was appointed to President Clinton's Commission on the Celebration of Women in American History.

Bernard Dorfman (Nassau), of Israeloff, Trattner & Co. CPAs, was elected to the Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce board of directors.

Barry Garfield (Nassau), of Holtz Rubenstein & Co. LLP, was reappointed to the advisory board of Long Island Development Corp.

Richard E. Gavin (Suffolk), of Grassi & Co. PC, was elected to the board of directors of the Family Service League of Suffolk County.

Joseph J. Gentile (Westchester), of Gentile Weiner Penta & Co. CPAs PC, was reelected treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce of the Mahopacs for the year ending April 30, 1999.

Stanley M. Heller (Suffolk), of Peare & Heller PC, was appointed to the Town of Huntington's Board of Ethics and Financial Disclosure, which enforces regulations regarding conduct of the town's elected officials and employees.

Stephen A. Kolenda (Southern Tier), a professor at Hartwick College, was appointed the first Professional Academic Fellow at the Division of Corporate Finance of the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Fred M. LaMarca (Staten Island), of Maltese, Potter & LaMarca LLP, was elected chair of the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce board of directors and received an award from the YMCA Counseling Service for his efforts serving the community.

Gerard J. LoVerde (Staten Island), own account, addressed South Beach Psychiatric Center employees on the traditional vs. Roth IRA.

Edward Mucenski (Syracuse), of Pinto, Mucenski and Watson PC, was elected chair of the Mater Dei College board of trustees.

Timothy W. Mulcahy (Suffolk), of Holtz Rubenstein & Co. LLP, was appointed to the advisory committee of the Long Island Community Foundation.

Edward J. Oppenheimer (Nassau), own account, conducted a workshop on preparing tax returns and learning about recent tax changes at the Baldwin Public Library on Long Island.

Arthur Sanders (Nassau), of Israeloff, Trattner & Co. CPAs, is the recipient of the Long Island Distinguished Leadership Award, presented by Long Island Business News for significant service and uniquely effective regional leadership to the community.

Diane Womack (Nassau), of Margolin, Winer & Evens LLP, lectured on career opportunities in the accounting profession to students at St. John's Prep High School in Long Island City.
