Young CPAs Chapter Roundup

Since the founding of the first Young CPAs Committee in Suffolk three years ago, most chapters have formed similar groups. The committees encourage young members to become more involved in NYSSCPA activities, and also provide networking opportunities through various professional, social, and public service events. Here are the contact persons and an update on some of the chapters' activities:

Buffalo - This new committee, with the local CPA Candidates Association chapter, plans a food drive in mid-November. Contact Chair Diane Wiktorowski at (716) 843-5000.

Mid-Hudson - Contact Chair William Trainor at (914) 457-1100.

Nassau - A young professionals dinner cruise took place on November 5 at Chelsea Piers in Manhattan, attended by CPAs, attorneys, and bankers.

Northeast - The committee sponsored a stress management seminar on November 19 and plans a holiday party on December 3. Contact Chair

Rochester - The committee plans a series of "Looking into the Future" seminars on such topics as finance, economics, interest rates, and the Year 2000 and beyond. Contact Co-chairs Michelle A. Cohen at (716) 546-1158 or Norm Provvidenza at (716) 244-200.

Suffolk - The committee participated in Long Island Volunteer Enterprises (LIVE) for the third year in a row. This year's project was to plant an herb garden at the Grist Mill in Stonybrook, on behalf of a former employee who passed away. Staten Island - This new committee plans a dinner meeting in November with CPA Candidates. Contact Chair Walter Daskowski at (718) 980-8500.

Syracuse - A Dale Carnegie business and personal development workshop took place on September 22, the first event for this new committee. Contact Chair Michelle A. Dickey at (315) 471-2777.

Utica - Plans for this new committee include a happy hour, to which it will also invite CPA candidates and local college accounting students. Contact Chair Mark D. Semo at (315) 735-5216.
