From the President
By Charles Weintraub, Staten Island Chapter President The holiday season is almost upon us and I can’t believe that I already have to plan the chapter’s holiday party. Look out for the Grinch, Tax season is around the corner. Our last seminar on sales tax, Sept. 25 at the East Shore Inn, was informative and well attended. Anthony Maltese, of Maltese, Potter, & LaMarca, LLP, did a great job organizing this event. Stewart Buxbaum and the representatives from New York State Society of CPAs spoke on many new topics in the sales tax arena. Thanks, Tony! On Oct. 9, we had our annual education night at the Renaissance. This event was hosted by Cynthia Scarinci, accounting professor of the College of Staten Island. Many students attended from local colleges to hear Jeff Cohen of Eisner & Lubin, LLP, and Scott Sannito of Foster McKay speak about career paths that these future accountants might want to take. This event was well organized and well attended. Thanks, Cynthia, Jeff and Scott! I want to also send out a special thanks to Rosemarie Barnickel, who arranged to have these and other events sponsored by GreenPoint Bank. The sponsors help us in many ways. Thanks, Rosemarie!
