Message From the President

By Pat Wright, Brooklyn Chapter President

The fall is upon us and most of us have finally completed the FY 2002 tax returns. What a year!

The Brooklyn Chapter sponsored two seminars, the New Tax Act of 2003 on Sept.18 and the annual Officers Visitation and Ethics CPE on Oct. 9. Both seminars were very successful, and I encourage members and friends of the chapter to participate in events that will enhance their careers whenever possible in the future. These events are also a time for practitioners to ask questions, fellowship and network.

I am very pleased with the Brooklyn’s young CPAs’ response to get together. In response to their enthusiasm, we are planning a “meet and greet” toward the end of November. Each member will be contacted, and for those of you whom I have not yet heard from, please contact me immediately.

I have been in touch with some of the counselors in the Brooklyn high schools as we plan to launch “Career in Accounting,” by either hosting career visits or being part of the schools’ career nights. Our mission is to spread the word to the young people of the community that a career in accounting is a great beginning.

The Brooklyn Chapter is part of the TriBoro Practitioner Liaison Committee, an IRS-organized committee in which practitioners can field questions and receive answers on any topic. Please feel free to contact me and I will be happy to submit your questions when we meet quarterly.

Please visit us on the web at www.nysscpa.org and sign up for upcoming seminars.
