FAQs, cyberspeak for "frequently asked questions," is a feature of The Trusted Professional that answers common questions about www.nysscpa.org. Members can post inquiries and comments about the Society's website by clicking on the Technical Problems and Website Suggestions links at the bottom of the homepage. The following are recent inquiries posed to website editors:
I surf the NYSSCPA website daily. In fact, the website is usually the first Internet destination I travel to while web browsing. Is it possible to program my browser so this site will automatically open when I sign on? We are glad to hear that you wish to make nysscpa.org your homepage, the page or site your browser will open automatically when you log on to the Internet. Below are directions to set the Society's website as the homepage with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Netscape, the most commonly used browsers.
Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 Open Microsoft Internet Explorer and go to the drop down menu at the top of the screen, click on Tools, and then select Internet Options. You will notice six tabs; select General, if it is not already displayed. The General tab includes three subsections, including Homepage, where you can enter the web address of your choice. Simply place your cursor in the space provided, type http://www.nysscpa.org, and click on the OK box at the bottom of the window. That's it. The next time you open your Microsoft Internet Explorer, it will automatically open nysscpa.org.
Open Netscape and go to the drop down menu at the top of the screen. Click on Edit, and select Preferences. See the "Navigator starts with" section and click on the Homepage option. In the second section of the window, type www.nysscpa.org and click OK. Netscape will now automatically go to nysscpa.org when you open your browser.
I am a Society member but I only have access to nysscpa.org from my computer at work. I do have a computer with a modem at home, but I do not have an Internet service provider that would allow me to access the website from home. Is there a provider you would recommend, and how should I go about setting up an account? There are a number of Internet service providers from which to choose, and most are quite easy to set up. As an NYSSCPA member, however, you can take advantage of discounts on telecommunications services from MCI Worldcom, including a 5 percent discount on MCI Worldcom's Internet services. You can learn more about this benefit--and other member affinity programs--via the Member Services section on the homepage's Find It Fast menu. Scroll down to MCI Worldcom for a summary of services and a link to the MCI Worldcom site for more details on how to set up your service. You can also contact MCI Worldcom directly at (800) 539-2000. Make sure you specify code number 2794 to receive the preferential NYSSCPA rate.
The website staff thanks you for your questions and encourages members to post questions and comments in the appropriate sections of the site noted above, or e-mail staff@nysscpa.org. Members can also call our web editing staff via the main Society numbers, (212) 719-8300 or (800) 633-6320. * |
