Career and Litigation Directories Available on Society WebsiteNYSSCPA.ORG Celebrates Anniversary, Continues to Grow
By Paul Sinegal Two popular NYSSCPA publications are now available exclusively online--the Career Opportunities Handbook and the Forensic and Litigation Services Directory. The directories are the latest services that the Society's website--now in its second year--offers to help members expand their practices and build their careers. The Career Opportunities Handbook offers exposure to small and medium-sized accounting firms (under 200 professionals) that may lack the resources to actively visit college campuses. The handbook is a directory of these firms around the New York state area and serves to alert students and other job-seekers to the diverse opportunities in local public accounting firms. The advantages of making the Career Opportunities Handbook available online are many. Prospective applicants may quickly search for firms by practice area and geographic location. The career directory also allows applicants to find out which firms offer internship opportunities. Having an online listing gives employers the flexibility to make changes to their listing at any time by using a preassigned password. A firm can add new information as its practice grows and expands. This fall, the Forensic and Litigation Services Directory moves exclusively online after its successful introduction last year in both electronic and print formats. This directory is an outgrowth of the increase in CPAs providing forensic accounting and litigation services to the legal profession, investigative agencies, insurance companies, and other businesses. The NYSSCPA Litigation Services Committee, which spearheads the efforts of New York's CPA profession in this growing practice area, helped prepare the directory. Similar to the Career Opportunities Handbook, the online Forensic and Litigation Services Directory offers quick search options, including geographic and area of expertise, and allows firms to amend their listings at any time. See the website's Referral Services section on the Find it Fast menu on the homepage to access both directories. Simply scroll down to Career Opportunities or Litigation Service and click Go. See the accompanying advertisements below and on page 15 for information on how to participate in the directories' listings. NYSSCPA staff and members will continue to work closely together to make the website even more useful in the coming year. The Society encourages and appreciates feedback to help identify new resources that CPAs need to succeed. See the bottom of the homepage to make suggestions. |
