The NYSSCPA Buffalo Chapter Young CPAs Committee, chaired by Mark Koziel, has sponsored several recent events that have helped increase both the committee's and the chapter's visibility in the local community. In addition, Business First, a regional publication, featured the committee in an article and on its website. (See a reprint of the article on this page.)

The committee staffed a booth at the first annual Winefest, a community festival that attracted more than 1,500 people, including 60 local NYSSCPA members. The event's organizers said its success was due in part to volunteers from the Buffalo Chapter's Young CPAs. According to committee member Brian Pearson, who coordinated the chapter's participation, both the wine distributors and the attendees were very impressed by the committees' efforts during the entire day.

"The Winefest was an outstanding marketing opportunity for the Buffalo Chapter, the NYSSCPA as a whole, and for each firm and company that was represented," Koziel said. "We have shown that we are leaders in the area and picked a great new event with which to be affiliated."

Many people attending the Winefest commented on the committee's T-shirts and asked if they were for sale. Individuals can purchase the shirts--which cost $8 and feature the Buffalo Young CPAs Committee's "Accountants with an Attitude" tagline, along with a bull dog wearing sunglasses--by contacting Koziel at (716) 534-8800 or mjk@buffnet.net.

Food Drive Planned for November

The committee needs volunteers for a food drive in November that collects Thanksgiving food and money for local needy families. Volunteers will receive a free Young CPAs sweatshirt. Contact Alan Zdon, food drive chair, at (716) 855-4355.

In December the committee will again sponsor a Christmas wrap event where volunteers wrap gifts for Parents Anonymous, a not-for-profit organization that provides gifts for local underprivileged families and children. Contact Joe Falbo, wrap event chair, at (716) 285-5276 or jfalbo@asfcpa.

Watch upcoming Buffalo chapter newsletters and The Trusted Professional for more information on these and other activities of the Young CPAs Committee. Interested individuals also can visit www.nysscpa.org for updates on local events, or contact Falbo to subscribe to the committee's e-mail list.
