Member Input Given to Board

NYSSCPA President George Foundotos spearheaded a broad grassroots effort to hear members' viewpoints on the Uniform Accountancy Act. All 11 chapters held either special UAA forums or executive board meetings. President Foundotos, Executive Director Louis Grumet, and other Society leaders have spoken at and attended many of these events.

The Society also mailed a summary of the UAA provisions to members in the metropolitan New York area since this area does not have chapter meetings. In addition, Foundotos referenced the UAA, and encouraged feedback, in his letter to all members regarding American Express Tax and Business Services' entry into the New York market.

The Society's website, www.nysscpa.org, featured an online UAA survey, and supporting material, including a link to www.nasba.org, the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy's website, which has the entire act online. A copy of the Society's survey and related articles appeared in the September issue of The Trusted Professional, mailed to all members.

Foundotos asked 15 pertinent NYSSCPA committees to review and comment on the effects of the proposed changes, and sponsored a focus group of members in industry.

In addition to the special managing partners' forum, Foundotos and Grumet met with the local office managing partners of the Big 5 firms.

The Society also reached out to other accounting organizations, including exchanging correspondence or meeting with the National Conference of CPA Practitioners, the New York Society of Independent Accountants, and the New York Public Accountants Group.

Foundotos presented a report of the results of these activities to the Society's Board of Directors on October 6. Watch for the November issue of The Trusted Professional for details. *
