President's Message

The Board of Directors of the New York State Association of CPA Candidates, welcomes the new program year with excitement and anticipation. It is our intention to capitalize on our successes of last year and bring to our members events and programs that will help them make the right choices in their professional development.

I am delighted to report that we are well on our way to a fruitful and exciting year. In June, the Association was pleased to present a seminar on personal financial planning, hosted by Bruce Milove, CPA/PFS, of Access Financial Planning. (See related story on this page for details.) In July, Paul Sanchez, CPA, of Person Wolinsky CPA Review gave our capacity audience helpful hints to passing the CPA exam. The highlight of the evening was the raffle for a review course scholarship, won by Jocelyne Pierre.

Some of our upcoming professional development seminars include Accountants and Computers: Year 2000 Dilemma, a resume writing workshop, gender issues in accounting, and our marquee event, Career Day. The Board also expects to launch its online presence this year, in conjunction with the NYSSCPA's site, www.nysscpa.org, which will provide members with technical information and research, communication with peers, and e-mail.

Congratulations to all the candidates who passed the May 1998 CPA exam. You have proven to yourselves and others that passing is possible. For those who did not quite make the grade, do not despair. Remind yourselves that you have the discipline, dedication, and desire to pass the exam in November.
