New Major Medical Plan Offers $5,000,000 CoverageBy Ed Parker To address members' needs for more medical insurance options, the NYSSCPA has introduced a new major medical plan that provides up to $5,000,000 lifetime protection per person. An open enrollment period is now underway with a December 31, 1998 deadline. Society members and their families are eligible and will receive guaranteed acceptance. This is a traditional indemnity insurance plan that permits access to all doctors and hospitals. Unlike managed care plans, the NYSSCPA major medical plan does not require the selection of a primary care physician from an approved list. There is no "gatekeeper" before seeing a specialist, no 800 numbers to call before being admitted to a hospital, and no push by the insurer to get patients to leave the hospital quickly. The Society's major medical plan offers the following benefits:
Not only does this plan meet Society members' different needs but it also has many cost saving features such as common accident protection, child health supervision coverage, and certificate of creditable coverage which provides credit for pre-existing conditions. The NYSSCPA major medical plan is underwritten by First Allamerica Financial Life Insurance Company which has extensive experience in group health insurance and operates in all 50 states. The company is rated A (Excellent) by A.M. Best, the insurance company rating service. To enroll in the plan, contact the Society's insurance adminstrator Albert H. Wohlers & Co., 1440 N. Northwest Highway, Park Ridge, Ill. 60068-1400, or by phone at (800) 503-9230 or e-mail at cusv@ahw.com. Members also can contact NYSSCPA Members Benefits Manager Ed Parker at (212) 719-8382, (800) 633-6320, or eparker@nysscpa.org. Remember, the enrollment period expires December 31, 1998. * |
