Message From the President By Robert Quarte, Suffolk Chapter President I would like to extend a warm holiday greeting to the members of the NYSS-CPA Suffolk Chapter. One of the real joys of this season is the opportunity to wish you the very best for the New Year and to thank you for supporting the chapter. Without your active participation and hard work, our success would not be possible. Our members recently finished their 10th annual Toys for Tots toy drive with a goal to make it our most productive ever. This wonderful event was sponsored by the Young CPAs Committee in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps. Collection boxes were placed at CPA firms, banks and other businesses. The drive, which commenced in November and extended through early December, collected in excess of 2,000 toys to be distributed to needy children. Thank you for your generosity! The Young CPAs Committee also hosted a Networking Cocktail Reception at the Irish Coffee Pub on Nov. 17. The theme of the event was “Lifestyle Changes: Balancing the Triangle of Health,” presented by Michael R. Diamond, DC. Attendees were able to have their blood pressure taken and their blood glucose levels measured. There were also massage therapy and nutrition experts on hand to answer questions. “It was a lighthearted event that offered interactive experiences with health professionals in the health field, and was well attended and a great networking opportunity,” Committee Vice Cochairman Christine Kern said. On Nov. 9, the chapter held a joint meeting with the Nassau Chapter at the Chateau Briand. The theme of the event was Mentor a Student Night, and over 150 college students came. The students attended an informative workshop prior to an opportunity for networking, followed by dinner and a guest speaker. The Emerging Technologies/Map Committee held an event on Dec. 7 on Check 21 and its impact on the independent auditor. In addition, the Tax Committee held its All-Day Tax Update on Dec. 11 at the Huntington Hilton. As always, if you have any suggestions or comments, please contact me anytime. Bob Quarte can be reached at 631-434-9500 or rquarte@avz.com. |
