Message From the President

By Barry Doll, Manhattan/Bronx Chapter President

Greetings for the New Year! I hope you enjoyed the holidays and were able to relax and spend time with family and friends.

As we begin the year, I want to provide some information from the Ethics Seminar and Officers Visitation, which was held on Nov. 16. Over 275 members traveled to Con Edison at 4 Irving Place to hear an excellent presentation on ethics.

For the most part, the evaluations provided by the participants were very positive, with high marks given to the speaker, program contents and facilities. We are very grateful to Vincent Love for his outstanding presentation. As one member said, “The speaker made a potentially dry subject come alive.” Much thanks to JPMorgan Chase Bank Personal Financial Services as well for sponsoring the event and to Con Edison for donating their auditorium.

Your Board of Directors has been working throughout the year to plan events for you. We recently had an IRS presentation on Jan. 5, on electronic filing of tax returns. Future seminars include a Jan. 26 seminar on the subject of managing credit card debt. Both seminars are at the Society’s new office at 3 Park Avenue (at 34th Street).

You can register through the Society’s website at www.nysscpa.org.

The Manhattan/Bronx Chapter has its own page on the society’s website where you can learn more about us. You can see the chapter’s new banner on the site too.

We have added a new section on the website entitled “Employment Situations.” This section will include employment opportunities with CPA firms and companies. If you are interested in exploring any listed position, you can contact the individual indicated. Or if you have any questions or would like to list a position, please contact Anil Kumar at anilkumar99@aol.com.We hope you find this new service helpful.

Also, we have several committees for your consideration and support: Professional Seminars CPE; Membership; High School Presentations (One-On-One); Scholarship; Young CPAs; Not for Profit, and Cooperation with Bankers and Other Credit Grantors. If you are interested in joining any committee, please let me know at hidolly97@aol.com.

Finally, the chapter’s Nominating Committee will meet soon to identify and nominate officers and directors for the next fiscal year. Members serving on the Nominating Committee are me, Anil Kumar, Frank Marino and Ted Wilson. If you are interested in serving as a director or officer on the chapter’s board, please send a message to hidolly97@aol.com

Your board wishes to extend our best wishes for a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
