Message From the President By Mark Koziel, Buffalo Chapter President Happy New Year to the Buffalo Chapter. I hope it will prove financially rewarding to one and all. This is also the last month (in theory) before tax season really heats up. From talking with some members, it actually started in December! In January we’ll have two great programs to offer. For details and registration information, go to www.nysscpa.org, click on “Find Chapters,” then Buffalo, and both programs will be there for you. The first program scheduled for the middle of January is an e-filing seminar hosted by the IRS. This will be a great program for anyone who wants to learn more about e-filing and what it means for your clients. I know there are still questions out there, and this program is a huge benefit to our members. This program is also the kickoff to our Small MAP Committee, which I’ll explain later. The second program is scheduled for the end of January and is our annual Cooperation with Commercial Credit Grantors Committee function. Details will be announced toward the beginning of the new year. Watch your e-mails for our listserve update. Not on the listserve? Sign up now! It’s free and easy; just go to the Buffalo Chapter homepage to get instructions on subscribing. We currently have about 1,000 of our 1,300 members on the listserve and would love to have 100 percent participation. Join now. On Dec. 8 I was fortunate enough to attend the joint meeting with FEI, where the guest speaker was Jennifer Reingold, coauthor of Final Accounting – Ambition, Greed and the Fall of Arthur Andersen. Jennifer did a fabulous job with a packed room of 70-plus attendees. It was a wonderful meeting, and our chapter was well represented. Dec. 11 and 12 was the 50th annual Tax Institute. Look for the February issue of The Trusted Professional and the listserve updates for results of the Institute. We had close to 400 members registered, so it’ll be one of the largest for sure. Finally, we have selected our nominating committee for the election of the 2004/2005 officers. Peter Bellanti will be chair of the Nominating Committee and will be joined by John LaMonte and Fran Engel. If you have someone you’d like to nominate, or you would like to nominate yourself, feel free to e-mail Peter at pbellanti@dopkins.com. The officers slate will be put together some time in January and will be presented to members via The Trusted Professional’s February and March editions, along with listserve updates. Be sure to watch for the nominated officers. Elections will be at the April Education Night Dinner. Mark J. Koziel can be reached at 716-316-7329 or markkoziel@adelphia.net. |
