Summer Coming to a Close By Judy Seidman, Manhattan/Bronx Chapter President As I write this article, the city of New Orleans and many other cities down south are fighting to survive in light of the devastation brought by Hurricane Katrina. I know that I speak on behalf of the chapter board when I say that we feel their pain. There are many relief efforts in place, and we hope that these cities will start to feel some comfort soon. A disaster like this really makes you realize how important it is to be thankful for all that you have. It can be wiped out in the blink of an eye. One of the things I am thankful for is the opportunity to be president of the chapter. It is not an easy job, but a very rewarding one—especially when I see our members benefiting from and enjoying our events. So, the summer has once again come and gone. Although it tends to be a carefree, laid-back time of year, your chapter board has been busy at work planning several events for the upcoming months. So get ready to be educated, to have a good time and just be proud of being a member of the chapter. On Oct. 20, there will be a 2-credit CPE evening session, hosted by Hudson Valley Bank. The topic will be related to trust and estate planning. We have an impressive panel of speakers lined up. On Oct. 27, it’s time to kick back and have some fun at the Q Lounge, where you can play billiards or just hang out with your peers. This event is generously hosted by UBS and Lord Abbett Securities. Please check our Web site for more details regarding these events and for notices of future events. As always, feel free to contact me with feedback on past events, suggestions for future events or just to say hello and find out about the chapter. By the time this article goes to press, we will have held our annual Town Hall and Ethics Meeting (formerly Officers Visitation). This is our biggest event of the year, and I hope that all of you who attended had a positive experience. Special thanks to the Bank of NY for hosting this event and to chapter Vice President Michael Kirkland for all of his outstanding efforts. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at the State Society offices for their continuing devotion and support. There are a lot of aspects involved in running a chapter and putting together an event, and it could not happen without them. Special thanks to Lelia Dickenson, our chapter liaison, for her guidance and insight. Judy Seidman can be reached at jseidman@friedmanllp.com. |
