Message From the President By Glenn E. Albin, Rockland Chapter President I want to remind you that we have our Networking with Professionals event scheduled for Oct. 26. This event is a good night to reach out and create relationships or renew relationships with your fellow professionals in Rockland. In November we will have our all-day Tax Update with Professor Dyckman on Nov. 10. This is a great opportunity to get a jump on tax season to be ready for any changes that you might have forgotten. Our second event for November, on the18th, is our statewide officers visitation coupled with a free two-hour ethics CPE course. We are all required to take four hours of ethics in our triennial period. Additionally, this is great opportunity for you to speak to our statewide officers and hear what is going on at the state level with respect to our profession’s regulation in Albany. I hope that you will bring your questions and concerns and become informed about what the Society is doing for you to protect your profession. Our profession is still under the microscope. With recent school board scandals, our society has been proactive in dealing with this problem. I urge you to become involved in the political process. If we do not fight for our profession, who else will? I can assure you that the trial lawyers or regulators will not protect our profession. Some may ask how they can get involved in the process. The answer is, volunteer your time and services to a political campaign. This way you will develop a relationship with the elected representative, and when legislation is pending on how you practice public accountancy, you can call your elected representative and tell him or her how you feel about this legislation. I urge you to become involved with the Rockland Chapter as another means of keeping informed about pending and current regulation of your profession. Please attend our CPE and social events. I encourage our local firms to send their staff and partners to these events. By the time you read this article, some firms will have been contacted by Rockland Chapter officers to let you know what is going on at the chapter. I urge you to call me at 845-680-7964 if you have not been contacted. In closing, I look forward to seeing everyone at the Networking Event on Oct. 26. Glenn E. Albin can be reached at 845-680-7964 or Taxmanemtp@optonline.net. |
