Message From the President By Timothy N. O’Connor, Northeast Chapter President Our chapter, through our Executive Committee and our Executive Board’s leadership, continues to meet via teleconference on a monthly basis, with quarterly board meetings scheduled for 2004–2005. We have worked hard to develop and staff our committees. And we continue to meet our goals to “communicate, educate and advocate” for our membership. We have structured ourselves to include the following committees:
COAP
We recently had an article published in the Capital District Business Review about the Mayor’s Summer Institute for Career Exploration and our Career Opportunities in Accounting Program (COAP). The program included five days of classroom curriculum, taught by professors from St. Rose College and Siena College and CPA firm members. The program included four overnights at the St. Rose campus. The students were then placed in five-week internships at the Albany International Airport, local CPA firms, and not-for-profit organizations. They were paid for a thirty-hour week by the City of Albany. Young CPAs We also hosted the Young CPAs Annual Picnic and, despite the adverse weather, had considerable turnout to enjoy some good food and beverage and camaraderie. Membership We continue to seek the input and support of our membership. With your help, we will continue our efforts to reach our Northeast Chapter members, local media, students, educators, firm managing partners, government officials, state legislators and others who rely upon our profession in some manner, with the able assistance of our very dedicated Executive Board and committees. Please contact me if you would like to get involved. Timothy N. O’Connor can be reached at 518-785-0134 or tno@marvincpa.com. |
