Message From the President

By Patricia G. Wright, Brooklyn Chapter President

To all our members, associates and friends of the Brooklyn Chapter, I guess that everyone is back in town after disappearing during the week of the Republican National Convention. Wherever you were, I trust you had a great time.

As we close the 2004 tax year and prepare for 2005 and beyond, we want to be very sure that we have done everything as professionals to provide great service to our clients. In providing such services, we expect each of our members to take advantage of the many programs that the Brooklyn Chapter will offer in the year ahead. Here are a couple of reminders.

Join me on Sunday, Oct. 17, at 9:00 a.m. at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park for the annual Breast Cancer Walk for the Cure. Go online and pledge your monetary support at www.cancer.org/strideoline. Call 718-237-7851 and ask for Tamara if you need more information. If you cannot participate in the walk, but want to donate, all money must be paid by Friday, Oct. 15. If you plan to walk and have not paid by then, bring your donation on the morning of the walk. It’s a worthy and important cause, so I expect to see you there and I expect your donation, as no donation is too small. All checks should be made payable to the American Cancer Society.

The 2004–2005 calendar of CPE seminars is in place. This is a great chance to begin getting your credits in small quantities, which will help you cut down on the rush by the end of the August. But more important, it’s a great way to form new alliances, renew old acquaintances and refresh your professional skills. To register, visit www.nysscpa.org, or e-mail Audrey Dussard at dussard@dwassociate.com or me at p_wright@starrllc.com or pat.wright6@verizon.net.

As I encourage more young people to join the accounting profession and become CPAs, and as they move forward in that direction, help from those members who are looking to hire in the area of auditing would be greatly appreciated. Let me know how you can assist in placing some of these young people in this area.

To join the Young CPAs Committee or the High School Program Outreach, get in touch with Tony Pilgrim at apilgrim@fhsnj.org or me at p_wright@starrllc.com. This is your chance to be a part of the growth of the lives of others.

Until next time, see you soon. And keep in touch by visiting us on the web.

Pat Wright can be reached at 212-759-6556, ext. 122, or P_wright@starrllc.com.
