I would like to take this opportunity to update our members on a few items. Your chapter leadership is focusing its efforts on bringing you quality events that provide professional development, networking and community service opportunities.

Our Young CPAs committee held an after-work happy hour at B.B. Doyles in August. Those in attendance enjoyed an opportunity to network with fellow CPAs in a relaxed setting. We also partnered with the Young CPAs Committees of the Nassau and Suffolk chapters to organize a networking cruise event aboard the Spirit of New York on Sept. 6. The entire ship was ours, and we will look to make this an annual event for anyone that missed it!

We held an end-of-summer networking event on Sept. 17 at the Q-Lounge, an upscale billiards hall and lounge in Manhattan. This event was sponsored by Jaimie Blackman Financial Advisor, UBS Financial Services. Those attending came to shoot some pool and shoot the breeze with fellow professionals at New York City’s celebrated billiards lounge.

Your chapter leaders continue to bring you quality CPE events. On Sept. 23, we held our Partner/Practitioner Half-Day Conference. This conference, organized by Board Member Walter Primoff, focused on the practice management impact of the post-Enron regulatory changes and provided attendees with four CPE credits. Our Oct.1 Career Management CPE workshop sold out, so we will be planning another date. In addition, on Oct. 9 we held a technical session on charitable giving for high-net-worth individuals and IRA rollovers.

Please help us by volunteering for community service projects as we partner with New York Cares this fall. On Oct.18, we will participate in their School Clean Up event. You can register to participate in this worthwhile school project by contacting Margaret Hannon at MAHannon@sinsvcs.com. We also invite you to save and donate your used coats as we participate in the New York Cares Annual Coat Drive later this year. Board Member Marcy Bajusz is our coat drive liaison.
