Message From the President

By Mark Koziel, Buffalo Chapter President

I’m writing this on the night of the Ethics CPE/Officers Visitation. The event was a huge success. There were over 200 members who attended the CPE and close to 150 members hung around to meet and greet with the State Society officers. The Ethics CPE was presented by Bob Colson, editor-in-chief of The CPA Journal and former member of the Buffalo Chapter. The feedback was extremely positive. The State Society also tells me they have a Part Three ready to go for next year! This is a wonderful service that our State Society provides, bringing us free CPE of this caliber. Special thanks to Jim Rizzo and Joe Falbo for volunteering to coordinate the logistics. Jim was responsible for securing the Adam’s Mark Hotel and the reception. I thought both rooms were well done. Joe took the task of gathering registrations, which, between him and his staff, were difficult to keep up with. Thanks, Joe and Marsha!

Members, be sure to check out the Buffalo Chapter webpage on the State Society website. This is updated every month with new information, registration forms and whatever you may need from the Buffalo Chapter. Every new event that has a flyer or registration form gets posted there first. After it’s posted I’ll then send out an e-mail to the Buffalo Chapter listserve as an update. The webpage stays current, so check it out.

One item I’d like you to look at and complete is the One on One Committee. This committee looks for volunteers to go out to high schools and tell them about our great profession. This is an excellent committee. Do you want your younger CPAs to practice their presentation skills? This is a perfect venue for that. Let them get in front of 30 to 50 high school students and get used to larger groups. Alex Ampadu is chair of this committee and has done an excellent job over the past few years. Check out the form online and register today!

In my last listserve message I mentioned our A&A Committee was looking to do an event on SAS 99 in October and an entry-level audit training course in November. The October event won’t happen because there seemed to be a lack of interest and the AICPA will be presenting eight hours of it in Buffalo in November. We don’t want go overkill on a topic. But the November program will still be a go, so look for information in the near future.

Finally, the Tax Institute is still working hard on the December program. I believe brochures will be out soon. You will be receiving information, so watch out and sign up right away. We want 400 this year, so help us make the 50th memorable.
Any comments, my e-mail is markkoziel@adelphia.net.
