Small Firms Consider Fundamental Change

By Edwin J. Kliegman

Guest speaker Neil Guilmette of the CPA Network presented “Blow the Lid Off the Old Way of Accounting” at the Small Firms Practice Management Committee’s monthly meeting on Sept. 3. Guilmette spoke about the obstacles preventing many small firm practitioners from attaining the income levels and quality of life they desire.

He proposed placing more emphasis on providing services that truly help clients in their business operations, thus encouraging CPAs to function as partners with their clients. The perceived value of these partnerships would be the basis of the fees charged to the clients. Guilmette presented several examples of small firm practitioners who have generated lucrative and personally satisfying engagements by adopting this fundamental change in their practice management.

The Small Firms Practice Management Committee meets on the first Wednesday of every month at the Society’s offices at 530 Fifth Ave. in New York City. All are welcome to attend.
