September 1999 CPAs Needed to Reach Out to Students Society Looks to Strengthen One-on-One Program In an effort to promote the profession effectively to young potential accountants, including both middle and high school students, the NYSSCPA wants CPA volunteers to speak at local schools. The One-on-One program, the Society's effort to bring CPAs directly into classrooms, is a important step that can help mold the future of the profession. Volunteers may visit individual classrooms or participate in schools' career days where professionals speak about their respective careers. Unfortunately, the accounting profession often is underrepresented at these events. The Society wants enthusiastic CPAs interested in making a difference in a young person's life. To be effective, the One-on-One program needs volunteers across the state, and all the 11 chapters need to take an active role to help expand the program. To volunteer, contact NYSSCPA Recruitment Specialist Sanjay Paranandi at (212) 719-8364, (800) 633-6320, or sparanandi@nysscpa.org . * |
