Executive Committee Approves Society Reorganization

By Joanne S. Barry

The Executive Committee has approved the restructuring of the NYSSCPA's internal management to position the organization to be more responsive to member needs. Executive Director Louis Grumet submitted the proposal.

Effective immediately, the organizational structure includes five areas: Communications, Technical Services, Member Relations, the Foundation for Accounting Education, and Operations.

The communications division, headed by Joanne Barry, now encompasses public relations; marketing; membership recruitment and retention; business development, including trade shows, and publications; the Society's website; production and publishing; and external media. In addition, this division is responsible for the production of The Trusted Professional.

James Woehlke, as director of technical services, manages ethics, peer review, technical services, and The CPA Journal. He also has been given the additional title of general counsel, and oversees the organization's legal affairs and human resources.

Lorrie Lamazor continues to develop FAE conferences and Society events and, as director of member relations, unites chapters, committees, CPA Candidates and the Leadership Academy under one umbrella to serve member needs on a more individualized basis.

The Foundation for Accounting Education continues to be headed by James Hardenberg, and works to provide members and their staffs with effective, high-quality, market-driven educational services.

Alan Schmelkin, as director of operations, is responsible for management information systems, including data base management and the development of a three year technology plan; finance and accounting; customer service and course registration; and office operations, including purchasing, building maintenance, and reception.

A revamped Society website, the launch of The Trusted Professional, and a new budget for the current fiscal year are among the items approved by the Executive Committee under this new management structure. *
