Society Website Receives Dow Jones Award

Revamped Site Premieres as nysscpa.org

By Wayne Whalen

The NYSSCPA website recently received an award as a Dow Jones Business DirectorySM Select Site. The directory is an online listing and review of more than 1,500 business news and information websites.

The Society's site received a total score of 32, with individual scores of 8 out of 10 in each of the four categories: content, speed, navigation and design. The NYSSCPA is the only state CPA association listed in the directory, and it received higher scores than other accounting sites. Only those sites deemed helpful resources by Dow Jones news editors receive a listing.

According to Timothy Andrews, editor and executive director, Dow Jones & Company, Inc., "Our editors only write reviews of high-quality websites that contain information you might find useful."

Among the features singled out in the Dow Jones review included the search engine capability for back issues of The CPA Journal. See http://bd.dowjones.com/ showreview.asp?ID=1636&gif=reviews for the complete review.

"We are thrilled to receive this designation from such a reputable source for business information as Dow Jones," said Mark Plostock, co-chair of the committee that oversees the website. "And we do not intend to rest on our laurels. We will continue to improve and enhance the site by redesigning it to accommodate our members' specific needs."

Jason Palmer, the committee co-chair with Plostock, explained that the Society's website is undergoing an extensive redesign that will make it easier to navigate and will provide more useful resources. The revamped site will serve as a one-stop source for members, students and the public for Society news, along with the latest professional and technical information.

In addition, the new site will provide more opportunities to interact online with professionals through forums, and offer hyperlinks to a wide array of additional information.

All members are invited to continue to visit the site as it undergoes its redesign and the Society welcomes feedback. Send comments to wwhalen@luca.com and stay tuned to www.nysscpa.org. *
