Message from the President

By Daniel M. Fordham, Adirondack Chapter President

With summer now behind us, I’d like to remind everyone of some upcoming programs that we have scheduled.

On Sept. 16, we will be having our annual State Society officers visitation in Blue Mountain Lake. Last year this event was very well attended and I’m hoping that we can get a good crowd again this year. Nothing is more beautiful than the Adirondacks in the fall. In addition to the officers visitation, there will be a two-hour ethics seminar. I encourage those attending to please come early and tour the museum; there will be no charge for those who have registered for the program. I would also suggest that everyone try to stay for dinner to socialize and also meet with the State Society officers.

On Oct. 21 we will be having a program in Lake Placid, entitled E-Submissions Future. Here you will learn how to apply for a POA, a client account transcript and an account inquiry, and get results in minutes. We will also discuss modernized e-file programs (1120/1120S, 990/990EZ). This seminar is presented by the IRS, NYS Department of Taxation and Finance and Camico Insurance Co.

The final course that we have scheduled for the fall will be held on Nov. 24, also in Lake Placid. The speaker, Peter A. Karl III, Esq., is the author of the May 2003 CPA Journal article “20 Questions About Deferred Realty Exchanges Under IRC Section 1031.” He will discuss the practical insights into this underutilized tax strategy, along with aspects of the new tax law.

Both the October and November seminars will be morning seminars held at the Howard Johnson’s in Lake Placid and are priced at $15, which covers the cost of the meeting room and continental breakfast.

I was glad to see that many of you attended the Empire Zone seminar recently in Plattsburgh, and I look forward to seeing you all at these upcoming seminars.

If anyone has any ideas on topics for any upcoming seminars, or questions about the events scheduled, please contact me at 518-563-7717 or fordham@westelcom.com.
