October Conferences Examine Tax and Industry Trends

FAE's October conferences give updates on developments in the banking and publishing industries, address special tax areas including sales and partnerships, and help CPAs in new or existing practices meet the growing demand for consulting services.

This year's Syracuse Banking Conference takes place on October 5 at the Turning Stone Casino Resort in Verona. Participants will get updates on regulatory issues, recent IRS and FASB developments, and techniques for improving employee performance through compensation strategies and new technologies. The conference is chaired by P.J. Banazek, of Firley Moran Freer & Eassa CPA PC, and Donald R. Taylor, of The Fagliarone Group PC. The NYSSCPA Banking Committee is the sponsor.

FAE's Publishing and New Media Conference will take place October 18 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City. Participants will learn about recent SEC developments and how to incorporate e-commerce into their businesses. They also will hear from industry executives including Primedia President Charlie McCurdy and Time Inc. Editor in Chief Norman Pearlstine. The conference chair is Richard Kravitz of Aspen Publishers Inc., and the NYSSCPA Publishing and Printing Committee is the sponsor.

The 1999 Sales Tax Conference will take place on October 19 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City. New York State Tax Commissioner Arthur J. Roth will update attendees on recent legislative developments, policy changes, and the direction he intends the tax department to take. Other topics will include an update on the Sales Tax Audit Division and sales and use tax laws in New York state. Stewart Buxbaum, of S. Buxbaum and Company PC, and James Tully, Jr., of DeGraff, Foy, Holt-Harris, Mealey & Kunz, chair the conference. The NYSSCPA Sales Tax Task Force is the sponsor.

FAE's first Consulting Services Conference, to take place October 20 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City, will address the marketplace's growing demand for consulting services from financial professionals. The faculty will discuss consultant evaluation, tracking and pricing engagements, and developing a practice. In addition, they will offer management tips and techniques. Peter Frank, of Cornick, Garber & Sandler LLP, and David Rauch chair the conference. The NYSSCPA Management Consulting Services General Committee is the sponsor.

The Partnership Taxation Conference will take place October 28 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City. Participants will examine the latest legislative and regulatory developments affecting the taxation of partnerships. Attendees also will find out how to use special tax preparation tips and planning strategies. The conference chair is Neil Tipograph of Imowitz Koenig and Company LLP. The NYSSCPA Partnerships Committee is the sponsor.
