NABA's New York Chapter Hosts Annual Dinner

By James D. Brown, CPA

The New York Chapter of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABANY), hosted its 19th Annual Scholarship and Recognition Dinner on June 18 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City.

The event marks the culmination of NABANY's fiscal year by recognizing its members for their contributions to the organization, the profession, and the community. It also gives NABA an opportunity to help shape the future of the profession by bestowing scholarships upon deserving college and high school students.

NABA National President Daniel J. Moore delivered the keynote address, in which he outlined NABA's challenges for the new millennium. Presentation of scholarships and awards followed the speech. NABA gave scholarships to eight students. Since it began keeping records in 1989, NABA has granted in excess of $3 million in scholarships to youngsters interested in accounting careers.

NABANY named Louis Eustache, president and CEO of Account-On-Us-Services, Inc., the Entrepreneur of the Year. The Community Service Award went to Dale Caldwell, who was represented by Dexter Bridgeman. Cheryl-Ann Maynard received the Student of the Year award. The Member of the Year Award went to Andre E. Wade, NABANY first vice president. Deloitte & Touche won Company of the Year.

Founded in New York in 1969, NABA's mission is to help create and enhance opportunities for minorities in the accounting and finance professions. The New York Chapter, with more than 400 members, is the largest in the association. The NYSSCPA recently began a strategic alliance with NABANY. Executive Director Louis Grumet represented the Society on the dais.
