Website Offers "Sound Advice"

By Wayne Whalen

Sound Advice, a new section on nysscpa.org, recently made its online debut. Accessible as a drop-down menu from the Society's home page, Sound Advice provides personal finance information with tools like worksheets, quizzes, and templates. Worksheets offered cover topics such as income and expense, asset inventory, and sample business plans.

Each week, a new column appears on the Sound Advice opening page (www.nysscpa.org/sound_advice/sound_advice.html). Recent articles include: Expanding the Home-Office Deduction for 1999, Amending Your Return, Some Timely Answers to Last-Minute Tax Questions, Children Can Help You Earn Tax Credits, and Strategies for Making the Most of Dependency Exemptions.

Sound Advice also offers tax resources, including calendars to maximize savings. It features a downloadable adjusted gross income form, federal and state tax forms, and other Internet resources.

The Ask an Expert section is another highlighted link in the Sound Advice section. It gives members and the general public the opportunity to ask questions in areas such as taxation, accounting services, and personal financial planning. Experts respond to questions and post pertinent answers online.

For more information about Sound Advice or to submit an article, contact NYSSCPA Electronic Media Manager Wayne Whalen at (212) 719-8342, (800) 633-6320, or wwhalen@nysscpa.org.

Forensic and Litigation Services Directory Provides More
Online Options

The NYSSCPA Forensic and Litigation Services Directory provides the most current information available about members who specialize in servicing the legal profession, investigative agencies, and insurance companies. It combines traditional accounting disciplines such as audit, review, and compilation of financial statements with investigative skills to help resolve significant financial disputes.

There are three sections to the directory. The first is an alphabetical listing of all individuals and firms including vital statistics such as name, main address, phone, fax, e-mail, website, and county location as well as a description of qualifications, experience, and expertise. The second section is an alphabetized listing by area of expertise; the third is an alphabetized listing by New York state county.

The directory provides e-commerce capabilities to firms that pay for an online listing and gives them the option to update their listing as they see fit. The directory also is available online as a portable document format (www.nysscpa.org/prof_library/forensic.pdf).

As it is the first of planned annual editions, the Society welcomes suggestions to help improve this publication. For more information, contact NYSSCPA Marketing Manager Frank Pagani at (212) 719-8374, (800) 633-6320, or fpagani@nysscpa.org.
