Hayden Keynotes, Society Presents Awards

New York State Board of Regents Chancellor Carl T. Hayden delivered the keynote address for the NYSSCPA Annual Election Meeting and Dinner, at which the Society presented its annual awards and elected its 1999­2000 officers.

Hayden emphasized that the Society should work with the Board of Regents to maintain
the integrity of the profession.

"I'm especially pleased to have this opportunity to discuss how important it is for us to work together to ensure the future and the strength of the CPA profession as well as maintain the trust and reliance that the public has always had in it and in you, the men and women who comprise it," Hayden said.

The Society also presented its annual awards. Sharon Sabba Fierstein received the Outstanding CPA in Industry Award, Irene N. McCarthy received the Dr. Emanuel J. Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award, Paul Rubenstein received the Arthur J. Dixon Public Service Award, George Mandel and Seymour Heinberg received Special Recognition awards, Marilyn A. Pendergast received the Distinguished Service Award, and Ronald J. Huefner received the Max Block Distinguished Article Award.

The Society gave awards for FAE Outstanding Discussion Leader to Ira Balsam, Peter Frank, Joseph Pinto, Jr., Rocco Macri, Michael McNee, and Alex Salomon. The Society also awarded five journalists with the NYSSCPA Excellence in Financial Journalism award and gave Charles Waldo Haskins Memorial awards to the top two finishers in the May 1998 and November 1998 CPA exams.
