May 1999 Issue FAE to Offer Continuing Legal Education By Amol Tembe The Foundation for Accounting Education plans to offer credits in continuing legal education (CLE) to allow NYSSCPA members and FAE seminar attendees who are attorneys to fulfill their CLE requirement through FAE courses. FAE's application for CLE approval of relevant programs in New York is currently pending with the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board. Last fall, New York state's chief judges issued rules, developed in conjunction with the New York State Bar Association and other professional groups, that require attorneys who practice in the state to complete 24 hours of CLE within a two-year period. Once the CLE board approves FAE's application, Society members and FAE course attendees who are both CPAs and attorneys can fulfill their CPE and CLE requirements with the same seminar, and at one price. "It's a great service and helps us build a bridge to our colleagues in the legal profession," FAE Director of Education Services Frimette Kass-Shraibman said. "They'll kill two birds with one stone. Many of FAE's courses already satisfy CLE requirements." The course listings on pages 1722 of this issue of The Trusted Professional and in the MayAugust FAE catalog include an icon that indicates programs that qualify for CLE. Beginning with its fall catalog, FAE also will denote courses relevant to certified financial planners and enrolled agents--all in an effort to meet the needs of the profession.
