May 1999 Issue Society Connects with Beta Alpha Psi In a continuing effort to reach out to future leaders of the profession, the NYSSCPA provides speakers for the accounting honor society, Beta Alpha Psi, and other student groups. Recently, James A. Woehlke, the Society's general counsel and director of techical services, spoke to 35 members of the Baruch College Beta Alpha Psi chapter. Woehlke discussed attorneyclient privilege between CPA and client, a timely professional issue resulting from the IRS Restructuring and Reform Act. Students were receptive to the topic and felt the issue would impact their professional careers. "Privilege will change the profession in the future," said Nyran Ramprashad, a junior at Baruch. "I'm glad we're learning about this." The Society encourages members to join its speakers bureau, which provides CPA speakers for accounting classes and student groups. To volunteer, or to request a speaker, contact NYSSCPA Recruitment Specialist Sanjay Paranandi at (212) 719-8364, (800) 633-6320, or sparanandi@nysscpa.org. * |
