April 1999 Issue FAE Offers Seven June Conferences Highlights Include Small Business, Financial Planning, Tax, Accounting and Auditing FAE's summer begins with seven conferences that cover topics such as government accounting and auditing, personal financial planning, providing services to small business and flow through entities, and dealing with the IRS. This year's Annual Study weekend in Saratoga Springs also takes place in June. The Small Business Taxation Conference, on June 9 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City, addresses changes to the federal, state, and local tax exposure of small businesses, as well as related sales tax developments and IRS procedures. The conference chair is Stewart Buxbaum (Nassau) of S. Buxbaum & Co. PC. The Personal Financial Planning Conference, on June 10 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City, features the latest developments and planning ideas, which CPAs can implement to achieve maximum advantage for their clients. Co-Chairs are William Bregman, own account, and Bruce M. Milove of Access Financial Planning. The NYSSCPA Personal Financial Planning Committee is the sponsor. FAE sponsors its Annual Study Conference June 1112 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. Chaired by Arnold L. Haskell (Suffolk) of Holtz Rubenstein & Co. LLP, this program offers participants a chance to earn CPE while they receive updates on today's accounting, auditing, and taxation issues and spend a quiet weekend upstate relaxing with friends and colleagues. The Taxation of Financial Products Conference, on June 16 at New York City's Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers, provides an update on tax, advisory, and regulatory issues surrounding financial products, reviews different types of investments, and looks at future trends. The NYSSCPA Taxation of Financial Products Committee is the sponsor. The chair is Abbigail Winawer of American Express Tax and Business Services of New York. The IRS Practice and Procedure Conference on June 17 at the Sheraton New York Hotel and Towers in New York City discusses recent developments at the IRS concerning operations, appeals, and collection procedures. Stephen R. Buschel (Westchester) of BDO Seidman LLP is the chair, and the NYSSCPA Relations with the Internal Revenue Service Committee is the sponsor. FAE's Governmental Accounting and Auditing Conference on June 23 at 42 West 44th Street in New York City includes updates and advice on providing accounting and auditing services to government agencies. It is sponsored by the NYSSCPA Government Accounting and Auditing Committee and chaired by Les S. Thompson (Westchester) of Les S. Thompson & Co. LLP and Susan M. Barossi (Westchester) of O'Connor Davies and Co. LLP. CPAs also can choose from two presentations of FAE's Flow Through Entities Conference--on June 30 at the New York Hilton Hotel and Towers in New York City and on July 7 at the Holiday Inn Airport Hotel in Rochester. Co-Chairs Alan T. Frankel of Frankel Loughran Starr & Vallone LLP and Kevin Leifer of Ernst & Young LLP will examine issues such as federal tax developments, how to make a 754 election, foreign partnerships, and Internet research techniques.
