Scholarship Application Undergoes Changes to Increase AwardsThe NYSSCPA Excellence in Accounting Scholarship application has undergone changes from last year based on modifications the Scholarship Awards Committee believes will improve the selection process. The most significant change, intended to encourage additional applications, is an increase in the number of applications allowed from each college or university from one application per 25 accounting majors to one per eight. The committee also has changed the application's format to provide for a more detailed background of each student's funding resources such as grants and loans. "We expect that the additional information will help the committee to ensure that the scholarships are awarded to those students whose academic achievement and financial need most closely meet the scholarship criteria," committee Chair Kathleen Brown said. The NYSSCPA awards scholarships of $1,500 per academic year for full-time students (12 credits or more per semester) and $750 per academic year for part-time students (at least six credits per semester), presenting payments in separate equal installments, one each semester. Recipients can renew the award provided that they continue to meet all eligibility requirements. Students can pick up an application from their accounting department chair, accounting club, or financial aid office or print a copy from http://www.nysscpa.org. The application deadline is April 1.
