February 1999 Issue
More than 25 nonprofit organizations attended the NYSSCPA Community Affairs Committee's annual educational seminar to hear specialists in accounting, tax, and technology offer tips on how to facilitate their operation. The event took place December 15 at the offices of American Express Tax and Business Services of New York. The committee hosts the event each year to provide free advice for smaller nonprofits; the majority of organizations represented had budgets under $100,000. This year's program was designed to be interactive and informal and allow the attendees to make specific inquiries in areas that concern them. Committee member Gary Eisenkraft of Sperduto Niederhoffer Sprung & Goldberg PC presented an accounting update, and Martin E. Greif and Neil Latman of American Express Tax and Business Services of New York discussed taxes and technology issues, respectively. Community Affairs Committee Chair Gloria Bucher (Southern Tier) and members Gil Bernhard (Nassau), George Fanourakis, and Lynda Feldman also attended. This spring, the committee will sponsor its annual workshop to introduce Society members to nonprofit organizations in need of volunteers. Representatives from a variety of nonprofit groups will meet with the CPAs and their guests that are interested in volunteering their professional or general skills. This year's workshop will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. May 12 at the Citicorp Center.
