The NYSSCPA Buffalo Chapter's Young CPAs Committee and the local CPA Candidates Association chapter hosted a Thanksgiving Day Food Drive on November 21 to benefit the Salvation Army and Catholic Charities of Buffalo. Members of both groups also participated in a gift-wrapping event on December 17 to benefit Parents Anonymous.

For the food drive, young CPAs and candidates collected food and cash donations at five Quality and Jubilee supermarkets across the western New York area. Within four hours, the crew collected enough food donations to fill three sport utility vehicles. In addition to this success, the event fostered stronger relationships between the Young CPAs Committee and the CPA Candidates Association.

Thanks to the following individuals for their participation in the food drive: Joe Armenia, John Cassidy, Paul Chameli, Karen Costa, Michael Draves, Dave Fieramusca, Pat Galley, Cheryl Jackson, George Knab, Jeanne Lafever, Sara Magill, Lenore Manuele, Roberta Mason, Tony Mrozik, Stephanie Posa, Alan Regdos, Denise Schaefer, Nick Silvaroli, Steve Tokarczyk, Greg Urban, Craig Weiss, and Alan Zdon. Special thanks to Buffalo Chapter President-Elect Raymond Nowicki for his generous cash donation.

At the gift-wrapping event, members of the Young CPAs Committee and CPA Candidates chapter helped wrap loads of donated gifts, which were then given to needy families in the area. Volunteers had a great time knowing they helped make Christmas brighter for some Buffalo residents.

Other recent events included a January 14 seminar on investment options for young professionals, sponsored by the CPA Candidates Association, and a January 22 happy hour to kick-off the busy season, hosted by the Young CPAs Committee.
