COCO Approves New Policy on Committee Minutes

By Nereida Gomez

The Committee on Committee Operations (COCO) recently announced that NYSSCPA staff members will now attend committee meetings and prepare minutes for chairs' approvals. The new policy became effective on December 1, 1998.

The Society's Executive Director Louis Grumet recommended the procedure to allow committee members to participate more fully in meetings and to help make committee membership a more meaningful experience without additional administrative tasks. In addition, Grumet said the new policy will better acquaint staff with committee members.

"Removing this often burdensome task from members will help encourage committee service," COCO Chair Carol Lapidus said. "The policy also emphasizes that the Society is responsive to its core group of active members."

In addition, the new procedure will expedite minutes approval and distribution. Staff will send a draft to committee chairs within five business days of the meeting and chairs will return them within three days. While the Society will continue to mail minutes to committee members via regular mail, it also will immediately post them on its website, www.nysscpa.org, to facilitate access for all members. *
