NEW YORK, NY – May 21, 2007 – The Foundation for Accounting Education (FAE) of the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) is holding its annual Career Opportunities in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program in 10 colleges across New York State. Founded in 1987, the COAP program has graduated 1,700 minority students, many of whom have finished college and entered the business profession.

The goal of the COAP program is to increase minority participation in the accounting profession. COAP students live on university campuses and attend sessions on college life, accounting as a career, financial aid and more. As part of the program, students take tours of local accounting firms and businesses to see accountants in action. Professionals from public accounting, private industry and academia serve as members of the COAP Advisory Board. COAP is financed by the NYSSCPA and contributions from its members.

"COAP offers high school students an unusual "first": the opportunity to take a professionally oriented application process to fruition. The selection process is highly competitive. Each applicant completes an application with essential academic data, writes an essay, and participates in a half-hour interview conducted by CPAs," said C. Daniel Stubbs, Jr., Senior Vice President and CFO, Rockefeller Philanthropy Advisors, Inc. and Chair of the COAP Program.

The 2007 COAP Programs will be taking place at Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY (June 23 - June 27), Le Moyne College in Syracuse, NY (June 25 - June 27), Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY (July 9 - July 13), Pace University in Pleasantville, NY (June 24 - June 28), St. John’s University in Queens, NY (June 27 – July 2), Sienna College in Loudonville, NY (June 25 – 28), State University of New York (SUNY) Brockport in Brockport, NY (June 24 - June 28), SUNY at Buffalo in Amherst, NY (June 25 - June 28), SUNY New Paltz in New Paltz, NY (June 25 – June 28), Westchester Community College in Valhalla, NY (June 25 – June 28).

For more information on the COAP program or to interview a student in your city, contact Emily Dennis, Public Relations Associate at 212-719-8364 or by e-mail at edennis@nysscpa.org.
