NEW
YORK, May 2, 2006 – The New York State Society of
Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) will present Alex Ampadu,
CPA an Assistant Professor for the State University of New York,
Buffalo with its Dr. Emmanuel Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education
Award at the Society’s 109th Annual Election Meeting and Dinner
at the Marriott Marquis in New York City on May 18th. The Dr. Emanuel
Saxe Outstanding CPA in Education Award highlights outstanding service
and professional development in accounting education.
“Over many years I continue to observe his
strong commitment and dedication in the academia community to the
advancement of higher education,” said Debbie A. Cutler, CPA,
a member of the Society’s Board of Directors who nominated
him for the award. “I have observed him interact with students
at many social events and have heard only glowing praise from the
University of Buffalo students about his teaching abilities and
dedication to helping students achieve their goals.”
Ampadu, who joined the Society in 1981, currently
serves on the Promoting CPA Careers committee, the Career Opportunities
in the Accounting Profession (COAP) Buffalo Advisory Board and the
Society’s Foundation for Accounting Education’s Campus
Ambassador Committee, which promote the benefits of the Society
including its scholarships and membership. He also served on the
Higher Education committee and was the chair for the Minority Group
Recruitment & Equal Opportunity committee.
Ampadu is the founder and faculty advisor for the
Minority Management Society (MMS) and the developer and director
of the endorsed internal auditing program – one of only 40
such programs in the world. He developed courses such as “Principles
and Practices in Internal Auditing” and “Information
Systems Audit.” He serves on the National Board of Directors
for Beta Alpha Psi and is a national instructor for KPMG experienced
professionals.
He is the recipient of multiple awards including
Outstanding Faculty Advisor award, the Presidential Award for Service
to Beta Alpha Psi, and the Milton Plesur Award for Excellence in
Teaching, and the School of Management Teacher of the Year.
He received
a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Ghana and and
a Masters in Business Administration from Rochester Institute of
Technology.
