NYSSCPA Recognizes 2004 Max Block Award Winners
Articles Published in CPA Journal Garner Distinguished Prizes

NEW YORK, NY, May 16, 2005 - The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) has announced the winners of the 2004 Max Block Award

Each year since 1975, the Journal has bestowed the Max Block Distinguished Article Award, named for an early and influential managing editor, to the most outstanding articles of the past year. Judging and selection procedures have evolved over the years, but the criteria have remained: “An innovative and stimulating article which is of current significance and which is likely to be of lasting value.” For the first time this year, three awards are being given, in categories that recognize excellence in the different kinds of information and discourse for which the Journal is renowned within the
professional community.

Audit Standards in Transition: An Interview with PCAOB Chief Auditor Douglas R. Carmichael, September 2004.

CPA Journal Editorial Board member Douglas R. Carmichael, PhD, CPA, CFE, is the first chief auditor and director of professional standards for the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board (PCAOB).

Awards will be presented at the Society’s Annual Dinner on May 18th at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City.

The CPA Journal is broadly recognized as an outstanding, technical-refereed publication aimed at public practitioners, management, educators, and other accounting professionals. It is published by NYSSCPA, the oldest and largest accounting association in the nation with over 30,000 members. In 2005, The CPA Journal celebrates its 75th year of publication. In 2004 the Journal underwent a major redesign, the most significant change to the magazine’s structure and appearance since 1972. The website (www.cpajournal.com), with archives going back to 1989, was also redesigned.
