NEW
YORK, NY, May 14, 2009 – The
New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA)
installed
David J.
Moynihan, CPA of Syracuse as President at its 112th Annual Election
Meeting and Dinner at the New York Marriott Marquis Hotel. Moynihan
is the partner in charge of the audit practice group at Testone,
Marshall & Discenza LLP.
Moynihan
takes office as a new accountancy reform law signed earlier
this year by Governor David A. Paterson
makes sweeping
changes to the state’s regulations
for the accounting profession, including bringing a larger number of CPAs under
the state’s regulatory structure.
“The
new law brings regulation of the profession into the 21st century
and will help ensure increased public protection,” Moynihan
said. The theme of his administration will be ‘quality
matters’ and his goal is to have
CPAs and users of CPA services work together in a partnership to ensure quality
for the public.
Moynihan
has been a NYSSCPA member since 1982. He has served as president-elect
and as a member of its Executive committee
and Board of Directors. He also
chaired the Quality Enhancement Policy, Peer Review and Peer Review Administrative
committees,
was vice chair of its Political Action committee and chair of its Career
Opportunity in the Accounting Profession (COAP) program fundraising committee.
He is past
president of its Syracuse Chapter and was president-elect and a member
of its Executive Board. He also chaired the chapter’s
Cooperation with Education and High School Recruitment committees.
Moynihan
is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
(AICPA) and received its certificate of achievement in Governmental and
Non-Profit Accounting and Auditing. He is also a former member of the
AICPA
Peer Review
Board and is on the Central Region Council of the New York State Government
Finance Officers Association.
He
is Finance Chair of St. Patrick’s
Church and treasurer of Partners for Education and Business.
He
is a graduate of LeMoyne College with a Bachelor of Science
degree
in accounting.
He
and his wife, Sara have a daughter, Allison.
