NEW YORK, NEW YORK, April 5, 2006 -- The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) will present Kevin J. McCoy, CPA of Latham with a Distinguished Service Award on Thursday, May 18th at the Society’s 109th Annual Election Meeting and Dinner at the Marriott Marquis in New York City. He is a member of the Society’s Board of Directors, Vice President, its Executive Committee and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Council. He has also served on the Society’s, Audit, Managing Partners, Finance, Professional Ethics, Legislative Task Force and Political Action committees He additionally was Continuing Professional Education (CPE) instructor at the Society’s Ethics and Auditing conference and co-chair of the Staff Study Conference, three days of concentrated CPE on auditing, accounting and tax issues presented to Society members.

He has also been President, President-Elect, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Government Relations Director of the Society’s Northeast Chapter. He served on the chapter’s Cooperation with Bankers, Cooperation with the Bar, CPE, Educations and Public Relations committees. McCoy has been active in many local non-profit organizations. Among other activities, he currently serves as the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Business Services Corporation of the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Nominated by Beth van Bladel, CPA, past president of the Northeast Chapter. “I believe if Sigmund Freud had the opportunity to meet Kevin he would remark how Kevin is truly motivated by the needs of others rather than the need to gratify his own ego. In his many influential roles, I have never seen him abuse the privilege to serve his profession or the community. In fact, when he taught the Ethics Update to the Northeast Chapter several months ago, I cold not think of anyone more qualified to teach us about ethics, one who truly leads by example. I am always amazed at the time and effort Kevin is willing to put forth for our profession.”
