Island CPA To Receive Distinguished Service Award

NEW
YORK, NY, March 31, 2008 -- The New York State Society
of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) will present Howard
D. Weiner, CPA of Old Bethpage with its Distinguished Service
Award on Thursday, May 15th at the Society’s 111th Annual
Election Meeting and Dinner at the New York Hilton Hotel. This
award recognizes outstanding leadership services to the profession
through publications, public service and other activities.
Weiner
received this award for the leadership he has shown to the NYSSCPA
as a member of its Board of Directors and to its Foundation of
Accounting Education (FAE) as a trustee and an advocate of CPA
continuing professional education (CPE) to continuously elevate
professional standards for the CPA profession. He has served on
the Executive Board and as president, president-elect, vice president
and treasurer of its Nassau Chapter. He has also actively contributed
to his community on the board of directors and as president of
Long Island Cares, a non-profit serving Long Island’s poor
and hungry, as a board member of the Long Island Philharmonic
and as a member of the honorary board of the American Lung Association
of Nassau-Suffolk where he was vice president and treasurer.
"Howard
Weiner is a perfect example of what we look for in a leader of
the CPA profession. He has extraordinary personal knowledge of
accounting and auditing as well as current issues involving Securities
and Exchange Commission accounting and disclosures with publicly-held
companies using the highest quality control standards. He has
served as chair of the Accounting & Auditing Services Practice
Management Committee and been a member of 16 NYSSCPA and chapter
committees. He has spearheaded the CPE initiative within his firm
and has advocated for strong education and quality review standards
in his educational lectures, FAE presentations and committee service,”
Barry Seidel, CPA, a former NYSSCPA president, said in nominating
Weiner for this award.
Weiner
joined the NYSSCPA in 1970. He has also chaired its Accounting
& Auditing Services Practice Management committee and Annual
FAE conference, and been a member of its International Accounting
and Auditing, Peer Review, Management of an Accounting Practice,
Annual Leadership, Chapter Relations, Audit Sampling, Quality
Control Practice Assistance, Analytical Techniques and Computers
in Accounting and Auditing committees.
As
the partner in charge of audit quality at Holtz Rubenstein Reminick
LLP, he has the overall responsibility for the development of
firm policies and procedures within the audit department and for
the firm's educational programs. As an active member in DFK International,
a worldwide association of accounting firms, he chairs its International
Assurance Committee. He also has served as president and on the
executive board of DFK/USA, the American arm of DFK International.
Weiner
earned a B.B.A. degree in accounting and an MBA in taxation/data
processing from Bernard M. Baruch College, City University of
New York.
