NEW
YORK, NY, March 13, 2009 – The New York State
Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) will present
Elliot
L. Hendler, CPA of the Bronx with its Distinguished Service
Award on Thursday, May 14th at the Society’s 112th
Annual Election Meeting and Dinner at the New York Marriott
Marquis Hotel. This
award recognizes outstanding leadership services to the profession
through publications, public service and other activities.
Hendler
received this award for the leadership he has shown to
the NYSSCPA as a member of its Board of Directors and Executive
Committee and to its Foundation for Accounting Education
(FAE)
as Secretary and a Trustee, and an advocate of CPA continuing
professional education (CPE) to continuously elevate professional
standards for the CPA profession. He currently serves as
a NYSSCPA
Vice President and a member of its SEC Practice, Accounting
and Auditing, Industry, Tax Division, Practice Management,
Public
Sector and Consulting Services Oversight committees. He is
also a member of the editorial review board of The
CPA Journal, a
peer-reviewed technical publication aimed at public and private
accounting practitioners, managers, educators, and other
financial professionals.

to be an educator as well as a sounding board for ideas and questions,” Bruce
A. Madnick, Managing Partner, Friedman LLP, said in nominating
Hendler for this award.
Hendler
has been a member of the NYSSCPA since 1962. He was NYSSCPA
Secretary. His NYSSCPA committee
service includes
serving as
chair of the Accounting & Review Services and Membership
committees and Annual Study Conferences, and as a member
of the Audit, Finance, Nominating, Peer Review, Auditing
Standards,
Financial Accounting Standards, Committee Operations,
Relations with the IRS, Real Estate Accounting, Construction
Contractors,
Interim Financial Statements and Annual Conference committees.
He was also a member of the Task Force on Assessment
of Members’ Continuing
Professional Education (CPE) Needs and the Committee
Coordinator Advisory Group, and a member of the Executive
Board of
the NYSSCPA’s
Manhattan-Bronx Chapter.
He
was the recipient of the FAE Outstanding Discussion Leader
Award for 1993-1994 and
has been a frequent speaker
on accounting
and auditing matters for the FAE and other groups.
Hendler
is a partner emeritus with Friedman LLP where he is a director
of quality control and a member of
the firm’s
continuing professional education planning group.
Hendler
is also a member of the American Institute of Certified
Public Accountants, the New Jersey Society
of Certified
Public Accountants and the Accountants Club of
America and is chairman
of the Reviewers Group of New York.
