NEW
YORK, NY, December 11, 2007 – The Suffolk Chapter
Young CPAs Committee of the New York State Society of Certified
Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) has collected over 3,500 toys for
the local Toys for Tots program. The U.S. Marine Corps will pick-up
the donation – the largest Toys for Tots donation in Suffolk
County, according to Sgt. Javier Santiago, Toys for Tots Coordinator
– on Friday, Dec. 14th at 3 p.m. from the offices of Sheehan
and Company, an accounting firm, at 165 Orinoco Drive, Brightwaters,
New York.
Cynthia Finn, president of the NYSSCPA
Suffolk chapter, has been coordinating the Toys for Tots program
since its inception 13 years ago, working closely with the U.S.
Marine Corps and members of the chapter. Finn and other chapter
members will present the toys to the Marine Corps.
“Donations have grown tremendously
over the years, and this year more than 50 firms and local businesses
participated in the program collecting more than 3,500 toys with
drop boxes at offices in Suffolk, Nassau and Manhattan. In the
past, the Marines have arrived with two 2-ton trucks, and based
on prior experience with our growth rate in collections, they
have decided to bring a tractor trailer this year,” said
Ms. Finn.
"We can't wait to pick up there
– it has been great every year I've been here," said
Sgt. Santiago, Alpha Company, 6th Communication Battalion.
The
U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program (www.toysfortots.org)
collects new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December
each year, and distributes those toys as Christmas gifts to needy
children in the community in which the campaign is conducted.
The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a shiny
new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to needy youngsters that
will motivate them to grow into responsible, productive, patriotic
citizens and community leaders.
