Message From the President

By Barry Doll, Manhattan/Bronx Chapter President

In this month’s column I want to bring you up to date on our scheduled activities and ask for your help.

First, let’s look at the various activities held and/or planned for you this year. As you can see from the calendar of events included on this page, a variety of social and technical events is scheduled for all members. Your board has spent considerable time in working on these events. We hope you participate and find them beneficial.

However, it does not mean anything if the programs do not meet your needs. Please let me, or any member of the board, know what kind of programs you would like to attend. We can only plan the events based on your feedback. Of course, if you like the programs, we would like to know that too.

Planning these programs takes time and effort, and we need more help to do the job right. As I have indicated in previous messages, we need volunteers for our committees. Currently there are eight committees that are either formed or being developed:

We think and hope that the above committee structure will meet your needs, and we urge you to join any one of interest to you. Please contact the board liaison or committee chair at the e-mail addresses listed.

I believe the heart and soul of any successful organization is its members. Our membership is very large—over 6,000 very diverse members. But we do not see a representation of members supporting and participating in our activities or our committees. Spending a few hours each month in shaping our—your—programs is well worth the effort.

I’d like to share with you the description of the Membership Committee:

Who We Are

The committee identifies ways in which to increase chapter and Society membership and participate in implementing those efforts and in providing meaningful activities to encourage continuing interest by our members.

What We Do

Obtain an understanding of the needs of our members and potential members to determine how we may meet those needs.

Seek to establish liaisons with the Society’s statewide Membership Committee and the Membership committees of other chapters in order to exchange ideas and coordinate efforts to meet mutual membership goals.

Plan programs and other means of contacting potential members.

Consider the needs of various segments of the membership and potential members, including associate members, CPAs in industry, minorities and students.

Who Should Join

Chapter members interested in assuring that the chapter and the society continue to attract members and provide them with meaningful services.

If the above information sounds interesting to you, let Elliot Hendler know.

I hope you took some time this summer to recharge your batteries. And I encourage you to get involved with your chapter. We need you!

Stay tuned.
