Message From the President

To all our members, associates and friends of the NYSSCPA Brooklyn Chapter, I trust that you had a great summer and, of course, some needed rest as we accountants prepare for the final leg of the 2004 income tax season.

I am very pleased that the NYSSCPA Board of Directors has conferred permanent status on our chapter, and we will work hard to keep it that way. The board of the Brooklyn Chapter is cognizant of the fact that our profession is still under the microscope and that the Sarbanes-Oxley legislation is not only for those in the area of audit, but for everyone who is a practicing accountant. As such, in planning the calendar for 2004–2005, we planned CPE sessions on topics specifically affecting the continuity, profitability and longevity of your practice. So sign up early for these CPE classes, which will begin this month. You cannot afford to not participate.

The chapter will participate in the Brooklyn Cancer Society Walk, scheduled to take place in Prospect Park in Brooklyn on Sunday, Oct. 17. Each walker will try to raise as much money as he or she can from August to October. This fall we will continue our high school visitations. I know that a number of you had indicated that you wanted to be a part of this life-changing experience. I will seek out your help for this worthy cause, especially college students and young CPAs.

A number of financial institutions are interested in working with Brooklyn CPAs in good standing who are members of the NYSSCPA, not only to get your business, but also to service their clients in a number of specialized areas.
