Board Extends New Chapters; Opens FAE Trustees’ Nomination Process By
Kate Prouty On July 13, the board approved the continuation of its Adirondack, Brooklyn, Finger Lakes (originally Central Southern Tier), Manhattan/Bronx, Rockland and Queens chapters as “permanent.” The board is empowered to create or terminate a chapter at any time. The board created the six chapters in the 2001-02 fiscal year pursuant to a recommendation made by the Task Force on Chapters. The task force first met in 1999 with the goal of better accommodating members in underserved areas upstate as well as those in the boroughs of New York City not being served by a chapter at that time. When the board originally launched the six chapters it agreed to review them three years later and formally extend or rescind them on a permanent basis. In its review of the new chapters, the Society assessed each of its 17 chapters on their emergence of chapter leadership and their ability to offer sufficient chapter activities and CPE activity. Although the initial success of the new chapters was applauded, suggestions were made as to how to improve the quality of all the chapters 2004-05 Selections Subcommittee Named The Selections Subcommittee will now identify candidates to serve on the Foundation for Accounting Education (FAE) Board of Trustees in addition to its original tasks of recommending persons to fill vacancies on the AICPA Council and the board’s Nominating Committee. Effective June 1, 2005, the FAE Board of Trustees will fill its own vacancies from a list approved by the Society board. At its July meeting, the Board of Directors announced the members of the 2004-05 subcommittee as Steven F. Langowski, Barbara S. Dwyer, Don A. Kiamie, Nancy A. Kirby and Richard E. Piluso. As Society president-elect, Langowski will chair the subcommittee in accordance with Board standing rules. The process to create a Selections Subcommittee began on a trail basis in 2003 and was recently approved as a board standing rule at the Board of Directors’ April 21 meeting (see article “NYSSCPA Board Approves Break-Even Budget” in June Trusted Professional).
