Officer Bios
THOMAS
E. RILEY
Thomas E. Riley, CPA, is a principal with the Fagliarone Group
CPAs, P.C., in Syracuse, N.Y. A member of the Society since 1982,
he currently serves on the board of directors and on the Executive
Committee and as chair of the Quality Enhancement Policy Committee.
He previously served as Society vice president, secretary and
board member, as an AICPA Council member, as a member of the Executive
Committee and FAE Board of Trustees, as chair of the Membership
Committee and as president of the Syracuse Chapter. Riley has
also served on numerous other NYSSCPA committees. Additionally,
he is treasurer and a board member of the Francis House and the
Onondaga County Historical Association, as well as a member of
the Le Moyne College Board of Regents. Riley received his bachelor’s
of science degree in accounting from Le Moyne College and holds
the AICPA’s PFS Designation. He and his wife, Shae, reside
in Camillus, N.Y., and have three children, Shannon, Kathleen
and Thomas.
VICTOR
S. RICH
Victor S. Rich, CPA, is a senior partner with McGladrey &
Pullen LLP in New York City. A member of the Society since 1966,
he currently serves on the board of directors and on the Executive
Committee and as chair of the Large and Medium-Sized Firms Practice
Management Committee. He previously served as Society vice president
and as a board member, as a member of the FAE Board of Trustees,
as an AICPA Council member, and as a chair of the Furtherance,
Management of an Accounting Practice, Members in Public Practice,
and Public Relations committees. Rich has also served on numerous
other NYSSCPA committees. Additionally, he is a former chair and
Planning Board member of the Environmental Conservation Board
for Irvington-on-Hudson, N.Y., and two-term treasurer and board
member of the Accountants Club of America and the Accountants’
Forum. He received Dartmouth College’s Outstanding Alumni
Award in 1997. Rich received his bachelor’s of arts degree
from Dartmouth College and his master’s of business administration
degree, with a major in accounting, from Columbia University.
He resides in Old Westbury, N.Y., and has two adult children,
Melissa and Jason.
SUSAN
R. SCHOENFELD
Susan R. Schoenfeld is a principal and associate fiduciary counsel
with Bessemer Trust in New York City. A member of the Society
since 1989, she currently serves on the board of directors and
on the Executive Committee and as vice chair of the Tax Division
Oversight Committee. She previously served as chair of the Estate
Planning Committee, as a member of the Committee on Committee
Operations and the Entertainment and Sports Committee and as president
of the Westchester Chapter. Additionally, Schoenfeld is treasurer
of the Broadway Training Center of Westchester, Inc., a not-for-profit
performing arts school in Hastings-on-Hudson, N.Y. She received
her master’s of business administration degree (with distinction)
from Pace University, her juris doctorate from Pace University
School of Law and her master’s of law degree in taxation
from New York University School of Law. She resides in Edgemont,
N.Y., with her husband and daughter.
STEPHEN
P. VALENTI
Stephen P. Valenti, CPA, is a professor of accounting and finance
at New York University. A member of the Society since 1983, he
currently serves on the board of directors and as a member of
the Executive, Quality Enhancement Policy, Tax Division Oversight,
Consolidated Returns, Affiliated and Related Corporations, and
Mergers and Acquisitions committees. He previously served as a
board member and as chair of the Tax Division Oversight, Higher
Education, Closely Held and S Corporations, and Taxation of Individuals
committees. Valenti has also served on numerous other NYSSCPA
committees and was instrumental in the development of the Society’s
Web site. Additionally, the United Nations selected him to serve
as guest lecturer of accounting in China in 1998. He received
his bachelor’s of science degree in accounting from Bucknell
University and his master’s of business administration degree
in finance from Fordham University. He and his wife, Mary Lou,
reside in Plainview, N.Y., and have two daughters, Laura and Diana.
RAYMOND
M. NOWICKI
Raymond M. Nowicki, CPA, is managing partner with Nowicki and
Company, LLP, in Buffalo, N.Y. A member of the Society since 1979,
he currently serves on the board of directors and on the Executive
and Peer Review committees and as a member of the Peer Review
Committee. Previously, he served on the Peer Review Board for
the American Institute of CPAs. He previously served as Society
vice president and board member, as a member of the Executive
Committee, as chair of the Committee on Committee Operations and
as president of the Buffalo Chapter. Nowicki has also served on
numerous other NYSSCPA committees. Additionally, he is an advisory
board member and chairman emeritus of the New York State Small
Business Development Center, a board member and secretary emeritus
of the Upstate New York Turnaround Management Association, and
an advisory board member of the Response to Love Center Soup Kitchen.
He received his bachelor’s of science degree in accounting,
cum laude, from Canisius College. He and his wife, Maryann, reside
in Buffalo and have three daughters, Jennifer, Kathryn and Melissa.
NEVILLE
GRUSD
Neville Grusd, chartered accountant, is an executive vice president
with Merchant Factors Corporation and Merchant Financial Corporation
in New York City. A member of the Society since 1979, he currently
serves on the board of directors and on the Executive Committee.
He previously served as a board member, as a member of the Executive
Committee, as chair of the Industry Oversight, Management Tools
and Techniques, and Consulting Services Oversight committees and
as chair of the Task Force of Financial Statement Users. Grusd
has also served on numerous other NYSSCPA committees. Additionally,
he is a director and member of the Executive Committee of the
Commercial Finance Association. He received his bachelor’s
of commerce degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa.
He and his wife, Velma, reside in Great Neck, N.Y., and have four
children, Gavin, Andi, Ian and Cammy.
