What’s To Come By Ita Rahilly, Mid Hudson Chapter President On behalf of the Mid Hudson Chapter, I would like to thank Mark Levy for serving as our President this past year. Mark did a terrific job at the helm! Our appreciation is also extended to Nugent & Haeussler, P.C., for giving Mark the time to serve as President. June has been a very busy month for our Chapter. On Friday, June 3, we held our Legislative Briefing Breakfast. Kevin McCoy, Chair of the NYSSCPA’s Legislative Task Force, and Dennis O’Leary, the NYSSCPA’s Director of Government Relations, briefed us on the happenings in Albany. Their briefing was followed immediately by a meeting with our local State representatives. On June 20, we held a full-day Fraud Seminar in Newburgh. Tracy Badgley, of Levitan, Yegidis & Goldstein, arranged for Mark Dauberman to speak on “Today’s A & A Practice With an Eye to Fraud.” Mark Levy arranged for Walt Pavlo to speak on an “Analysis of White Collar Crime.” It was a great seminar! During the last week of June, the Mid Hudson Chapter held its inaugural COAP Program at Dutchess Community College. The students learned about our profession through classroom lectures and field trips. Field trips were taken to Vanacore, DeBenedictus, DiGovanni & Weddell to see a local accounting firm, to Central Hudson Gas & Electric to see a corporate accounting environment, to SUNY New Paltz to see a four-year university and to Pepsi in Valhalla. Our program culminated with a banquet dinner at the Culinary Institute of America, where Kenneth Standard, President of the New York State Bar Association, was our keynote speaker. The COAP committee included Gayle Chaky, of Dutchess Community College; Rief Kanan, of SUNY New Paltz; Mark Levy, of Nugent & Haeussler; Debbie Most, of Dutchess Community College; Sonya Rodriguez, of the Newburgh School District, and myself. Michelle Manning, of the State Society, was an enormous help! Mark your calendars for our August events. Thursday, Aug. 4, is our annual bus trip to Saratoga Racetrack, and Wednesday, Aug. 24, is our annual Renegades Baseball Outing. |
