Vision
for a New Year
By Patricia G. Wright, Brooklyn Chapter President To all our members, associates and friends of the Brooklyn Chapter of the NYSSCPA: As I write this article, I cannot help but admire the great spring weather we are enjoying. As we at Brooklyn Chapter prepare for a new year, I am enthusiastic about President-Elect Warren Bergstein’s vision for the chapter, and I trust that we all will give him the support that he will need to continue making the chapter a lighthouse of information in the community. The nominating committee will meet on May 16 to finalize the 2005–2006 board. For those chapter members who are interested in taking a more active service in the growth of the Brooklyn Chapter, please give me a call or send me an e-mail. We need more committed members to be a part of this wonderful experience. We are set for the annual COAP week, which will take place this year from June 27 to July 1. This is a resident program, which will be hosted by Long Island University in partnership with the NYSSCPA, for high school students who show an interest in accounting. We anticipate that we will have approximately 30 students, and from the interviews we have had, these students are enthusiastic and alert. We know that the experience will not only be only be informative for them, but it is also a small way of ensuring that our profession stay the course by preparing the next generation of accountants. We are planning to have our one-day Annual IRS Tax Seminar on Thursday, Dec. 1, which will give everyone time to receive needed information for tax planning before the season begins. So save the date. Again, I appeal to you to support our young people on a career path. And, as always, we seek volunteers for our High School Outreach Program. Thanks so much for a great two years as president of the Brooklyn Chapter. I look forward to seeing everyone at our various events, so please visit our Web site for upcoming dates. Patricia G.
