Message From the President

By Roger Beer, Syracuse Chapter President

This spring the Syracuse Chapter passes into the extremely capable hands of Lauren Kincaid, bolstered by veteran Board members Gail Kinsella, Michele Dickey and Heather Losi, who return to provide the same terrific support they’ve given in the past, along with newcomer Rick Shaw.

The makeup of the Board is especially progressive and interesting when considering the recent Trusted Professional article showing that almost 80 percent of the NYSSCPA membership is male (April 1, page 13). In addition, three of our firms who are very supportive of the local chapter—Testone Marshall & Discenza LLP, Firley Moran Freer & Eassa CPA P.C. and Fagliarone Group CPAs P.C.—have all promoted women partners in the past two years. These facts speak well of Syracuse firms and members, demonstrating that opportunities exist for all members to progress to the top of the profession.

The chapter officers and committee chairs are an exceptionally collegial and committed group of people who are supportive of all who serve. You will find that you get far more than you give when working with these professionals.

Upcoming events include the Officers Installation on Tuesday, May 18, at the Century Club. Also in May is the local MAP Committee meeting on Monday, May 17, at the Marx Conference Center.

The annual Golf Outing will be held at Beaver Meadows on Monday, June 21, starting at noon. This event is in the very capable hands of Madelyn Hornstein. Watch for the notice to sign up, because this event has sold out early in the past two years.

Please refer to the event listings on this page for more information. And continue to check our website as more programs are added at www.nysscpa.org, by clicking on “Find Chapters” and then “Syracuse.”
